Health Education: Smoking Cessation


You can quit smoking. Tobacco use is the most preventable cause of death in the United States for both women and men. Smoking has a harmful effect on a person's body especially when a person has a chronic disease such as heart and/or lung disease, diabetes or asthma. Are you ready to quit? Call the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Smoking Quitline for support toll-free at 1-877-44U-QUIT (1-877-448-7848). The hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. central time.
This assistance is available at no cost to you. People are there to help you evaluate your smoking behaviors, provide educational information and help you develop a personal action plan for quitting.
They also have smoking-related fact sheets in both English and Spanish. You can use these to read more information about quitting. These fact sheets are available by calling the toll-free quitline. Some of the topics include:
