The Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) provides financial incentives to eligible professionals who satisfactorily report data on quality measures for covered professional services furnished to Medicare beneficiaries. Incentives are available through 2014. Beginning in 2015, eligible professionals that do not satisfactorily report PQRS will be subject to payment adjustments. Performance on PQRS measures will be publicly reported on the Physician Compare website beginning in 2013.
CMS has hired Quality Improvement Organizations (QIOs) to provide free assistance to eligible professionals in reporting PQRS. As the federally designated QIO for Missouri, Primaris has helped hundreds of providers measure and improve care, using their EHR as an essential tool in the process. CMS is aligning quality measures for many initiatives, including PQRS, Patient-Centered Medical Homes, the EHR Incentive program (i.e., Meaningful Use), Accountable Care Organizations, and others. While still in development, the same electronic mechanism is expected to eventually be used to transmit all quality measures directly to CMS.
This website provides essential information for successfully reporting PQRS. For more information on the PQRS program, visit the CMS website.
